You dont need to have a D-STAR Repeater to access the D-STAR network. All you need is a D-STAR capable radio. The ID-1 fills just that slot. Use standalone to send digita voice messages across the D-STAR network or connect it to a PC and send Digital Data across the network. If there is no D-STAR network in your area you can still use the ID-1 to send "simplex" to another ID-1 user.
