Nice upgrade from 7300

Upgraded because of better overall DSP which became obvious on first POTA OP with tjis radio. I also run on battery when on an OP and the less standby current draw makes a difference over a few hours. radio seems to havea quieter fan which is nice as well. Not sure how much I will be using the HDMI but will be nice if needed. The USB C connection with multiple outputs for control and audio work nicely. One wish would have the radio use WIFI. I do plan on using the the ethernet connection for remote use as well. Just wish Icom would add the digital mode to the RS software.

Recently got the Icom MK2. It is a fantastic radio. Love it. The menus are easy to understand and are laid out well. If you are considering your first radio or adding to your collection you can't go wrong with this one. Excellent choice.

IC-7300MK2 is a massive improvement to the already time-tested IC-7300. It's worth the extra $$$

I've had this radio for about two weeks and I cannot stop extolling its superlatives. I bought from GigaParts in the afternoon and the radio arrived the next day; pretty fast for the "free shipping" option (most retailers would send it USPS Parcel Post and you'd be lucky to get it in a month and all banged-up, but not GigaParts - they sent it FedEx Next Day Saturday. Kudos to them!). While the majority of the radio's basic functionality and interface is similar if not identical to the original, ten-year old 7300, I believe the external improvements are what make it such a notable release. In fact, if it wasn't for the absolute similarity in appearance, I'd be tempted, if I were Icom, to make it an entirely new radio model rather than a mark and mod. I digress; the presence of an HDMI port for an external monitor is a massive upgrade and the change of the obsolete and no-longer-used-by-anyone Micro USB jack to the ubiquitous and universally accepted USB-C jack are, by themselves, worth the price difference over the IC-7300. The novel addition of the two SMA jacks for sending low-power RF to an external device and for receiving a secondary antenna are proving themselves useful. I'm not aware of another radio at the same price point with the level of ingenuity and response to consumer desires as the IC-7300MK2. As far as performance, you don't need me to tell you that it performs as well as you would expect. An ungrounded, 130-ft long end-fed wire strung from house to flagpole was bringing in far distant contacts across the bands without much regard to the time of day. Once I get a permanent proper antenna I can only imagine the performance will get even better. Oh, the internal antenna tuner (it's really an antenna matcher, not a tuner) is fast and does a great job matching your current frequency as best as possible to the antenna; most time it can get very, very close to 1:1 with one or two cycles of it. Don't spend too much time dwelling on it. If you've got the means, get the IC-7300MK2. You will be happy with it.

Going from the Icom 7300 to the Icom 7300MK2 was super easy. The menus are set up nearly identical, and the learning curve was very short. This radio is easy to navigate the new features that it brings with it and everything that the 7300 had before. The receive quality is improved along with the new features such as USB-C and HDMI that bring more comfort to operating. Being able to use an external monitor with the HDMI was a big plus for me. Looking forward to moving more in the digital world with this rig. My backup 7300 will still get plenty of use in POTA activities but the 7300MK2 has found its new home on the desk in the ham shack. It's a great radio backed by great service from GigaParts.

Recent addition to my corral of radios. Very pleased so far. It is the same but very much improved over the classic 7300. I am using the additional monitor plug n play and very enjoyable. I see things much more quickly and in better detail on the external display. I've tried the CW decoder. It is pretty good, but suffers from the malady all decoders do, including an operators difficulty in decoding bad CW. Poor timing on the send end is troublesome to overcome on the decode terminal. I am hoping it will improve my CW operations which are currently meager. Like many hams, I am senior in years, and hearing is an issue. I haven't tried the remote operation yet. But it appeals to me if and when I do, I won't need to leave my computer operating. This new radio has it's own server that will handle remote without the aid of a standby computer. I did purchase the MARS mod, but haven't used it other that to verify it is in the rig. Setup wasn't too troublesome. I did learn the hard way that one needs to change the CI-V address. Some digital software programs will not recognize the new rig, and I had to enter it as the IC-7300, not the IC-7300MK2. That may change with updates on the digital software.
All in all, my classic IC-7300 will now be used as a back up, or perhaps in another location.

Nice upgrade to an already great radio

I had been considering getting a second IC-7300 to use as a POTA/campground rig, but couldn't convince myself to buy another 10-year-old design. With the introduction of the mk2 I was swayed to upgrade the radio in my shack and repurpose the old radio to outdoor activities. The upgrade was worth it if you are looking for a very capable shack radio that has features usually found on much more expensive radios. The HDMI port makes connecting to a large monitor super simple, and the option of using a separate receive antenna in high noise environments is very nice. The look and feel of the mk2 is exactly the same as the original and getting it set up for digital modes and connecting to a computer was made easier with the use of a USB-C connector.
I absolutely recommend this radio for anyone looking for a new or first HF rig. It is a little harder to justify upgrading from the original IC-7300 but if you are looking for a second radio or to repurpose and older radio then this is a great way to go.

Last week I threw a G5RV 35 feet up between two trees, suspended in the middle by another tree, and hooked it to my LDG AT-100PROII Auto tuner and then to the Icom IC-7300MKII. I tuned the antenna to the radio on 15 meters and started turning the dial. Did I read any instructions? Nope. The Icom interface is very intuitive. I haven't run an HF rig in over 40 years and that was an old Heathkit HW-100 tube transceiver. This radio is a dream to operate. It is easy to experiment with settings until I decide to take time to read the manual... or at least watch some YouTube videos. There wasn't much need to search the dial because the waterfall display showed a really powerful signal at the north end of the band. Thank goodness I had just passed my General that day. The powerful signal was J51A calling CQ from Guinea-Bissau West Africa. I responded and received a 59 signal report from my Texas location. This was my first HF QSO in over 45 years. Then I realized I had forgotten to crank the power back up on the Icom after tuning the antenna. I was talking half-way around the world on 20 watts on a G5RV. What a rush! Now to knock the dust of my Heathkit HD-1410 keyer and jump back into CW.

Well, I have upgraded from my Icom 7200, and all I can say is WOW!!! The bells and whistles on this HF transceiver is outstanding. The color touch screen is clear, and easy to navigate. Anyone even remotely contemplating a new radio, you can't go wrong with this one. I added my Heil PR-40 microphone with their mic cable and am having great results with it on the 7300mk2. I am actually in my 2nd week of operation with this radio and am VERY pleased with its performance.

I was hesitant at first when trying to decide between the Icom IC-7300 and the IC-7300MK2. I am so glad that I settled on the IC-7300MK2 as it is a fantastic radio. The reception is incredible and I have found there are tons of videos out there to help setup the radio to get the best audio from both transmit and receive.
Being able to utilize the built in HDMI connection for viewing on a portable monitor has been a really nice touch. It gives me the ability to see clearly what is happening on the screen (although the built-in screen is amazingly clear) and to view what is going on from across the room.
I love the addition of an ethernet port on the back to connect the radio to my home network and be able to control the radio remotely from another room of my house. That makes being able to monitor what is going on with the radio so much easier.
Then there is USB-C. Need I say more? It pairs seamlessly with my MacBook and required no additional drivers. I was able to get the radio setup quite easily for digital modes and was impressed with how it performed both using WSPR mode and FT8.
To me there is a clear choice when choosing a new radio. The winner is the IC-7300MK2 as it just has the features that a new radio operator is looking for.
