The HPA1 adapter lead minimizes the chance of damaging the 3.5mm stereo socket audio equipment when using headphones with a larger 1/4" jack plug.  The 3.5mm stereo jack plug of the adapter lead connects directly to the headphone socket of your bhi unit/audio equipment and the 6.35mm (1/4") socket at the other end enables you to connect a 6.35mm (1/4") headphone jack plug, avoiding the issue of using a large adapter plug which can put stress on the 3.5mm headphone socket of your unit.
