The MFJ-1886 ADF loop stands out from many others on the market for its weather-sealed and robust construction, which ensures mechanical stability under all weather conditions. This loop is so reliable that it can even be mounted permanently on an inexpensive TV rotor, allowing for convenient remote direction control from your shack. Measuring only 36-inches in diameter and weighing a mere 2-1/2 pounds, it can also be easily installed on a tripod or handheld mast for portable use.
Â
The secret to the MFJ-1886's exceptional performance lies in its balanced-input preamplifier. With dual MMICs operating in push-pull, it boasts an extremely low noise floor and an exceptionally wide dynamic range that can handle overload from nearby transmitters. This results in clear reception of weak signals and bullet-proof immunity from IMD. High-gain amplification and push-pull symmetry provide perfect electrical balance, ensuring deep nulls and accurate directivity.
Â
Installing the MFJ-1886 is quick and straightforward. It can be mounted using standard U-bolts on any conventional mast (1-3/4 inch OD or smaller), and all mounting hardware is included. The loop's preamplifier is phantom-powered through coax, eliminating the need for external wiring in remote installations. The MFJ-4117 Bias-T and MFJ-1312D plug-in AC supply that come with the loop can be used, or any external 12-volt DC source can be used for portable setups. All you need is a 50-ohm feedline with PL-259 connectors to connect the loop, plus a short PL-259 jumper to connect your radio to the Bias-T. Everything else is included.

As interference from consumer devices and digital systems increases, amateur-band noise floors are rising and spurious signals seem to appear out of nowhere. However, the MFJ-1886 receive loop is a powerful tool that can help you locate noise sources that can be suppressed, and null out the ones that can't. Don't let increased QRN take the joy out of operating - add the MFJ-1886 to your arsenal today!
