Great QRP Rig For The Money
Review by Tim (KM4YVX)
I am very satisfied with my purchase of the full kit. I watched a couple videos on youtube about assembling all the parts before ordering the kit. I took my time and spent two hours total assembling the radio and hooked it up to my 13.8 volt switching power supply using a prewired 2.1x5.5mm DC plug that I already had on hand because the plug that came with the kit required soldering to a cable and I don't have a soldering iron. I hooked the radio to my antenna system turned it on and dialed to my favorite 40 meter frequency and got a 59 signal report from another ham radio operator far away on my first press of the microphone button. How exciting for all that to happen in just a couple hours after receiving the kit in the mail. The uBITX Qrp radio is more fun to operate than my Kenwood TS-590SG.

Great kit radio
Review by John KD5INM
I upgraded with nextion touchscreen and additional arduino as well as the upgraded firmware. Its a great radio! I used it in WSPR mode to be received in New Zealand and Tasmania Australia on WSPR from my QTH in Texas on 40m. I was using a 40m magnetic loop laying on the floor next to my radio table. This is a great radio to start out with building a kit. Its expandable and modifiable for those who want to make it their own. So far I have about $255 tied up in it and I'm very happy with it. Join the uBitx group and read up on it and ask questions then pull the trigger on it with gigaparts. They are great to deal with. I got some black enamel paint and painted the heads of the screws on the front. I also took a file and modified the nextion board mounting holes so they aligned with the holes for the mounting of the old screen that came with the kit. I suggest getting a nextion screen eventually. Its a great upgrade. I wish we could post photos here to show mods to this radio and what is possible. The uBitx group and creator Farhan are very helpful in getting this kit going. Most of the work has been done. Its a very good rig, well designed and constructed. If you want to start out in kit building, this is a great start.

Lots of digital fun
Review by Jamey
Let me save you some money. A lot of money… Do you want to play in Ham Radio audio-based digital modes and not spend a lot of $$$? Just start with this radio, the uBiTx Ver.6.1 that is designed by Ashhar Farhan, VU2ESE. You can put it together in an hour using a small Phillips, and small slotted screwdriver, and a pair of needle-nose pliers. No soldering needed.

Then get a $100 computer, a Raspberry Pi 400 is what I use with a 64Gb SSD (that is: a 64gb, U3 ,micro SD card), that has HamPi image on board. You will want JTDX and GridTracker software to operate your uBiTx transceiver. They are free with HamPi. The transceiver emulates a Yaesu FT-817 QRP transceiver. Use a mini USB into the back of the radio. Settings are Rig: FT-817, Baud: 38400, 8 bits, 2 stop bits, CAT control for PTT. Now you are a CAT control wizard.

I haven’t been able to talk to Australia, New Zealand or Antarctica yet, but I can receive them right enough. I have sent FT-8 code and received code to all of Europe and much of Africa and some of near Asia.

Buy one of these radios. Have some fun with Ham radio.

Great Kit but power output decreases with frequency
Review by JustGettingStarted
The kit went together nicely. All the necessary parts were included. The documentation was light BUT there are several YouTube video available which show the assembly procedure. I bought the uBitX expecting that I could participate in a local 10 meter net. When I couldn’t make contact with the net, I posted my problem on the support group BITX20 at groups.io. One of the participants quickly directed me to the group’s Wiki. Way down under the heading “uBITX RF Power and Gain Issues” I found the following information: “The uBITX has plenty of power at 80m and a decreasing amount for every band you go up with barely 2W at 10m.” This information should have been included in Gigaparts description of the item. I might still have bought the item knowing its limitation on 10m but I would not be disappointed as I currently am. And there is no return offered since this is a kit. Granted, I haven’t been able to find another unit in this price range with an equal number of bands. If you are an entry-level ham like I am, I would STRONGLY recommend you spend a LOT of time reading the BITX20 group Wiki so that you will understand what you will get. The group members are very helpful and have offered numerous suggestions to me for evaluating the performance of the unit on the lower frequencies. In conclusion, I would recommend the kit for a more advanced ham than I am. In my opinion this really isn’t a “first radio” for the beginning ham.

Great QRP Transceiver
Review by W5GMD
I had fun building this and then tuning it up using the youtube video that shows setting the BFO. I get around 10 to 15 watts of power out. Great for using a small 12V battery, it only needs 2.5 amps!
