I bought this to monitor NXDN on the LA Metro rail system and it's good for that. Even when connected to my outdoor Ed Fong antenna it only hears the nearer lines. I rotate through three sets of rechargeable batteries at about one pair a day. I can use it to monitor the local DMR ham frequencies, but it doesn't indicate what talk group is in use.

I had read that scanner does not truck trunk track, but then I read it does Tier 3 and all the various proprietary formats of Tier 3. I can confirm it will Tier 3 systems, but it doesn't resolve to a TG level. This mean you can program what TG's you want to listen to or block Think of this as a ID scan without any way to lockout a TG. Everything comes through.
The more expensive scanners do track a TG, but those scanners cost about 2x the price. On a busy system during prime time could make it useless to follow any conversation. I sure it makes it easier to program, but it takes away from the scanning experience.
I'm sure I'll be able to use this scanner on less populated systems, but I am disappointed in that they took stuff away in order to create an inexpensive scanner.
