The design is rugged but I need to give it a fail. The design is too short meaning that both the front knobs and rear connectors stick out beyond the protective case. I have and enjoy the case for the FT-891 which IS long enough and does properly protect the knobs and rear connector.
My guess is that designed the cutting template based upon the spec sheet dimensions which clearly says "not including knobs and connectors".
A good design but poorly executed.

Great Rig Protection, but...

This is a great and well made add-on for the Explorer backpack modular system. I use it for my FT-710 and it works just fine. It does have openings for rails. However, I have the Portable Zero rails on my 710 and with them installed on the radio, it will not fit in the IP-991A due to the loops on the side of the rails for attaching a carry strap. I am hoping GigaParts will make a IP-710 Add-on for us FT-710 owners and take into consideration the Portable Zero rails. The FT-710 is very popular and many owners of the Field version have rails installed.
