Messi and Paoloni Airborne 5 Coax Cable: The Ultimate 5mm Coaxial Solution
The Messi and Paoloni Airborne 5 Coax Cable stands as the benchmark for 5mm (.200") coaxial cables, offering unparalleled performance and reliability for a wide range of amateur radio and communication applications. Engineered in Italy, this cable boasts significantly lower attenuation compared to standard RG58 C/U, making it an exceptional choice for HF, mobile, portable, QRP, and CB radio use.
With an impedance of 50 Ohm ± 3 at 200MHz, the Airborne 5 is designed for optimal power transfer. It exhibits 3.6 dB/100m less loss at 50MHz than RG58 C/U, ensuring more power reaches your antenna and signals are stronger. Its robust construction features a UV shielded polyethylene jacket with an overall diameter of 5mm (0.197 inches), making it perfectly suitable for direct burial and totally waterproof, as well as weatherproof for all outdoor applications. The PE tearproof sheath contributes to its superlative robustness and resistance, while its incredible lightness (1.4Kg per 100m less than RG58 C/U) makes it easy to handle and deploy.
The Airborne 5's superior performance stems from its advanced internal design. The inner conductor is made of 99.9% pure bare copper with an overall diameter of 1.13mm (0.044 inches). The dielectric is a triple-layer, high-pressure physical injection foamed polyethylene with an overall diameter of 3mm (0.118 inches), contributing to its impressive 85% velocity ratio and low capacitance of 76 pF/m.
The double screening system provides exceptional noise rejection. The first screen is a 100% screening aluminum-polyester-aluminum foil, designed to prevent cracking from short radius bends. The reactive braid, with 84% screening from 96 wires of aluminum magnesium, offers a strong and lightweight construction that ensures ultimate toughness, reliability, and superior screening attenuation. This combination results in a Screening Efficiency (SA) of >105 dB from 100-2000 MHz, classifying it as Screening Class A++.
The cable's minimum bending radius is 50mm (1.97 in) for up to 15 bends and 25mm (0.98 in) for a single choke bend, offering flexibility in installation. It operates reliably across a wide temperature range from -45°C to +70°C (-49°F to +158°F).
Important Note:
The aluminum braid cannot be soldered. Messi and Paoloni connectors are specifically designed to ensure secure connections without requiring soldering on the braid.

ATTENTION: To install the connectors in polyethylene cables like this one, additional procedures must be carried out, as it has a more robust sheath than PVC ones. In fact, it requires two longitudinal cuts to easily insert the component between the braid and the sheath without breaking it (alternately you can soften the polyethylene sheath using a hair dryer).
