The new FT3DR provides reliable 5W RF power output in compact design and light weight form factor – W2.44” x H3.94” x D1.28”/ 9.95oz (282g). Battery power-saving settings are available for each frequency band with TX output power level (5W/ 2.5W/ 1W/ 0.3W) individually selectable. Even in a compact body, the user can enjoy loud and clear C4FM voice quality from 700mW of audio power. Real Dual Band Operations (V+V, U+U, V+U, U+V) are available with two independent receivers, and the FT3DR supports simultaneous C4FM digital monitoring for both the A and B bands (C4FM/C4FM standby).
The new FT3DR is designed with a high-resolution 320 x 240 dot matrix full color TFT LCD display – which clearly highlights the frequency of the operational bands. Utilizing the Touch Sensitive Screen function of the display, three one- touch-panel keys at the bottom of the display are used for changing the mode, direct frequency entry and various setting from the function menu display with ease of use in mind. With its highly visible full color display, the new High-Resolution Band Scope function is available as one of the new advanced features which enables users to monitor up to 79 channels centered around the current VFO frequency in real time. Number of channels scanned is selectable from from19ch/ 39ch/ 79ch.
The features of the C4FM digital communication which are already popular in the market such as Automatic Mode Select (AMS), Digital Group ID (DG-ID) operation, and Smart Navigation function are available with the new FT3DR. The new FT3DR supports the WiRES-X Portable Digital Node Function as well. In the same way as some other current C4FM transceivers, users can easily set up a portable digital node with the new FT3DR and the optional SCU-39 cable kit and enjoy the WiRES-X internet communication.
CAM (Club Channel Activity Monitor) function is one of the new and advanced features of the FT3DR. Up to 10 groups with 5 channels per group each, of frequency used memory channels can be registered, and whist receiving on the current channel, the signal strength of this channel and past peaks of the other channels in the group can be displayed and monitored. With a single touch of a channel bar graph, it becomes the active operating channel and the FT3DR users may immediately start communicating with other club members on that channel.
A built-in Bluetooth unit is installed in the new FT3DR. Users can enjoy the Hands-Free Operation using the optional YAESU Bluetooth headset SSM-BT10 or a commercially available product. SSM-BT10 is equipped with the PTT button and supports the voice activated transmission (VOX) function.
Please note that the included USB cable is for firmware update ONLY, not for programming.
Other remarkable features of the new FT3DR include:

Customer Reviews
There are lots of upsides to this unit. The scope is wonderful and quickly helps you focus in on active frequencies. The nested menu structure takes some getting used to, but once learned, leaves a flat menu in the dust. Again, the feature list is awesome and too long to itemize. You truly get what you pay for!
Downsides? Well, yes, enough that I am being nice in giving 4 stars. The charging indicator is unreliable but hopefully future firmware updates will fix that. The touch screen is responsive but should have been made larger for fat fingers. It (almost) feels like a step backwards compared to the FT-2DR. The supplied battery is too small, especially if GPS and APRS are active. Always have a charged spare around! Next, dump the supplied ducky. I use a large Diamond SRH770S at home and a smaller SRH320A in the field. Both do a great job.
My biggest beef is the speaker. It's woefully tinny and definitely not worthy for such a great handheld. Side by side with my cheap Baofeng, the contrast is even more stark and appalling. Digital comms sound worse (even on VW), if you can imagine. You can alleviate the issue a bit by opening both the rubber flaps on the right side but why should I have to for such an expensive radio?
In the end, I'm still glad I made this purchase. I love it! But Yaesu, if you're listening: _please_ give the next gen a bigger battery, touchscreen and speaker!
The radio is an excellent companion, despite fearing some damage to the display, the colors and resolution help a lot making navigation through the functions very easy, it would only be better if the touch screen was capacitive.
I'm a regular user of APRS and after a week of use I already noticed some bugs, but nothing that a next firmware update does not solve, however in general typing is faster and easier than using the keyboard.
The automatic mode selection option is very interesting as I don't have to worry about the type to be used at the reception.
An evolution in relation to the VX8 was the integrated GPS and the speed with which it can determine the location, is almost instantaneous!
Also noteworthy are the channel and volume selectors on top of the radio, also with the option to invert them, and the use of a memory card, now I can finally record the conversations for future reference, in addition I can back up the configuration and of his memory.
What should be improved is actually a problem that all HT's present, the antenna is mediocre making the whole work underutilized because the maximum available radio power is not used, it would not be bad I found a Diamond or an MFJ in the box together!
Overall it is an excellent HT, but in many details the VX8 still gives a lesson!
Only downsides are the battery takes a while to charge and the charging indicator is kind of weird. If it is full charged and you unplug it and plug it back in the charge bar goes back to the beginning, almost like it is on a timer and not actually reading the battery power. The other problem in you can't filter out APRS positions from other stations by range. If you are anywhere close to a Digipeater you can't use pop ups because every couple of seconds you are getting position data from everything within 200 miles.
Other than those two minior complaints it is a solid radio that has been a joy to use so far. I recommend it if you are looking for a good HT with pretty much everything in one package.
Love the great new features. I used the FT3 during hurricane Dorian. Great EmCom radio.
This radio is my daily driver and go-to when it counts. Knowing what I know about this radio, I would still buy it again. I highly recommend the FT-3DR.
