I recently picked up the Yaesu M-70 Desk Microphone for use with my FT-897, and I couldn’t be more impressed. Right out of the box, the M-70 reflects the kind of quality Yaesu is known for—solid construction, clean lines, and a professional feel that inspires confidence.
Audio performance is outstanding. The mic delivers clear, crisp, and natural voice reproduction, and my signal reports immediately improved. The dynamic element captures excellent tonal detail without introducing harshness, and the built-in low-cut filter keeps the audio tight and focused. Whether I’m handling casual rag-chews or more demanding operating, the M-70 performs flawlessly. It’s incredibly easy to dial in the audio sweet spot on the FT-897, making it a perfect match for this rig.
A special mention goes to GigaParts. My order was originally on back order, but their expedited delivery once stock became available really impressed me. Their communication and service were top-notch, and the mic arrived sooner than I expected.
Overall, the Yaesu M-70 is an excellent performer with the build quality and audio clarity that define the Yaesu brand. If you’re looking to upgrade your station microphone—especially if you’re running an FT-897—this mic is absolutely worth it.

I own a Yaesu FT 991A. Had it for 3 years and I have the Yaesu M 70 mic. I don't use speech compression or the mic equalizer. I just run the factory settings for TX and I am always getting beautiful audio reports. Everyone says don't change a thing. I bought a Yaesu FTDX 101 MP MAX from Gigaparts. I have it for a week. I bought the M 70 mic because of the good reports from the 991A. Again I didn't change any TX settings just using factory settings for TX and the great audio reports just keep on coming. The M 70 is an excellent mic. I am glad I have those two radios and the two mics. I would not change a thing.

Got my Yaesu M-70 Desk Microphone today from GigaParts. Hooked it up and went through the set up with headphones on to adjusts the ALC, AMC and Speech Processor level to get the ALC & Compression just right. This mic was amazing to set up on my FTDX10 it took all of 5 mins to get perfect. The Stock hand mic that comes with the FTDX10 I could never get adjusted on the meters just right. It worked but nothing like the M-70 mic were everything dialed in perfect. the reports back on my sound were all good. A must buy and a real good Yaesu Desk Mic for any of the New Yaesu HF & Vhf Rigs.
