Terrific HT and great DMR radio
Review by

I originally bought this thinking I would be able to use it with 1 of our 2 repeaters here in the Auburn area. In fact, I can hit both the Opelika and Auburn repeaters from my QTH and if I wasn't always going somewhere I would never need a hotspot. But I travel frequently and so I have an Openspot 3 to go with this radio. Programming is easy and the supplied software (available from Remtronix website) was a breeze to use. I have Openspot zones for most of the places I travel (Destin, Birmingham, St. Louis, and Houston) and although I don't switch zones very often they are in the radio ready to go. Most of the time I talk on 3100 on the Auburn repeater. This is an excellent radio, and mine certainly puts out a full effective 5 watts, and on low I can talk from anywhere in my house or yard on the OpenSpot. So this is a radio I an recommend!

Alinco DJ-MD5TGP & APRS
Review by

I bought this radio from gigaparts and I love this radio! Has worked great for me. I did the firmware update for digital APRS in works great too except I wish you could turn the APRS off and on in the radio. Also there is no place to plug in a cig lighter cord cord to plug into 12 volts in the truck like I cn with other HT's This is why I gave it a 4.

So far I have had nothing but good things about this radio. I own Yaesu's FT-60, FT-2D, and a Tera TR-7400DMR. Why did I buy another radio? The Tera doesnt have the UHF\VHF capabilities. It does not do GPS or FM like the Alinco does. The Alinco is a TON easier to program. The transmission and reception has been better than my Tera. I use it both with a repeater and a Hot Spot. I have used with with the rubber duck and an external mobile antenna. Now the Alinco is new so dont expect to find a lot of add-ons yet. I would like to see a case for it to protect it. I dont have much more to say. The only negative for right now is the lack of radios to buy out there and the lack of up front support because its still "new".
