What is it? It's a plain brown box with a brand new amateur radio inside.
What radio is inside? That's the mystery, so we can't say, but we can offer a few hints. Whatever radio your nice brown box contains will be able to transmit on HF and 50MHz with up to 100 watts of power, 144MHz with up to 50 watts, and 440MHz with up to 35 watts. It's capable of AM, SSB, FM an GMSK digital phase modulation. It will have a control head that is separate from the main body of the radio which makes it very convenient to install in a vehicle, but also makes for a great desktop radio when space is at a premium. Oh! It will also have a touchscreen display.
Does it come with a warranty? Yes, your brown box is guaranteed for up to 10 days to be plain, with only the necessary markings required by law, stickers required for us to identify which brown box is which, and the requisite label for your favorite mystery-box-transporting-company to deliver it to you. After 10 days, the box's plainness may begin to wear off and that is not covered under warranty.
What about the contents of the box? The radio contained inside the plain box is decidedly less plain and it is warrantied to not lose it's lack of plainness, and to continue to operate according to its manufacturer's specifications for a period of one year, so long as the fault is due to a manufacturing defect.
What if I want the contents of the box without the mystery or the plain brown box? We're happy to accommodate those requests. We offer a $300 Mystery Disposal Fee (no charge for recycling the box).
What if I don't like what I find inside the box? We doubt that will be the case, but if you go to all the trouble of solving this mystery and you don't think the radio inside is an awesome radio at a fantastic price, and the mystery-solving experience alone wasn't worth the price, you can return it to us within 10 days for a full refund. The radio will need to be new and unopened, and you'll need to cover any shipping costs back to us. Just follow our simple return process.
Will everyone get the same radio inside their mystery box? Of course not! That's impossible. Everyone will get their own, unique radio, guaranteed to meet the specific specifications specified.

Why are you doing this? Because it's fun, because we want to save you money, and because we have too many of these things and we thought you could help us out. Above all, because we can (without fear of retribution, reprisal, despise, prosecution, or resentment from valued partners, respected competitors, righteous regulatory agencies and perennial patrons), because we read every letter of the law and all other relevant legal documents that may or may not exist and came to the obvious conclusion that we may, unilaterally, decide to put whatever we want inside our mysteriously plain brown boxes.
Will you do this again soon? Heavens, we hope not! This overstock business is for the birds. Enjoy it while you can. There really isn't that many of them but it doesn't take very many to sit around for very long before you have to do something to get them out of the way for new and exciting inventory!
