The first ID-50A that Gigaparts sent to me had a cracked top dial out of the box. They did not pay for return shipping, so I had to ship it back to them myself for a replacement. The replacement radio ALSO had a cracked top dial, just in a different spot. The serial numbers were very close together, so maybe it was just a bad batch? Except for some quality control issues and Gigaparts making you pay for return shipping when you get a defective product, the radio itself is good and has lots of great features.

All in all this is a great radio. It is very well built and rugged. All of the features work great. The monochrome screen is old school but does the job. I accidentally left this radio out in a heavy overnight rainstorm. When I found my radio it was completely soaked so I dried it off and pulled the battery pack off and found just a little tiny water in the cracks. However no water intruded the radio. It started right up and worked as it should. Even a day later there was no problem. The IP X7 rating makes this well worth it.

This little radio packs a punch! While it may not be the flashiest piece of kit on the market, the ID-50A is a workhorse that can handle just about anything you throw at it.
