MARS/CAP Modification Service

The MARS/CAP modification enables an amateur radio to transmit just outside its designated amateur radio bands. This service typically involves removing a small surface-mount component inside the radio, along with a few other steps.
When GigaParts performs this modification, your manufacturer's warranty will remain valid and is backed by us, should any issues arise directly from our modification.
Please note: any damage to the radio caused by transmitting too far outside its intended frequency range is not covered under warranty.
This service is commonly performed for licensed operators with the Military Auxiliary Radio Service (MARS) or Civil Air Patrol (CAP). However, we don't require proof of license to order this service. It is the individual radio operator's responsibility to ensure compliance with all FCC regulations regarding frequency usage, power output, and approved equipment.
If a MARS/CAP modification is available for the radio you're looking to purchase, it will appear in a drop-down menu near the Add to Cart button. Simply click the drop-down box and select "Add GigaParts MARS Modification Service" before adding the radio to your cart.
The range of unlocked frequencies differs from transceiver to transceiver. For specific information about what frequencies a modification will unlock, please contact us.
This service is non-refundable once completed.
If you're seeking two-way radios for purposes like hunting clubs, racing teams, construction crews, family communications, or businesses, a modified amateur radio is generally not the ideal solution. For these needs, please contact us! We offer other radio options better suited for those applications and are happy to help you choose the best equipment.
