Three years of reliable service
Review by
Steve
This was the first power supply I purchased from Gigaparts, but as an engineer in an electric utility I’ve purchased and used many power supplies. This power supply worked flawlessly since I bought it, just over three years ago, until two days ago. It has never been run hard. My radio is usually set to output less than 75 watts, and on digital less than 50. The only curious thing was that occasionally, even though I hadn’t been transmitting, the fan would come on. The fan is relatively loud.
However, two days ago I came downstairs to my “shack” and heard the fan blowing. None of the devices the power supply powers were turned on. To me it doesn’t make sense that at “no-load” the power supply should need a fan.
I sat there for a while until the fan turned off. Then I turned on my radio and looked for signals for a while. Everything was working well, but all of a sudden the integrated voltmeter started dropping, first to 11-12 volts and eventually to 5 volts. I put my Fluke on the output terminals and they were steady at 13.61 volts. Load was down around an amp. I’ve submitted an email to Samlex tech support to see what they say.
If you accept the position that three years is an acceptable length of service this has been a great power supply. Personally, I would like to see a longer lifespan. The good news is that now I get to go shopping! ????

Great PSU, and it's affordable

Samlex has a well-deserved reputation for quality. This Samlex PSU is quiet, both in terms of fan noise and RF. It is lighter and more power-efficient (little wasted power) than its sibling the SEC-1235-M, and ... well, it just does its job very well. I caught it during a recent price reduction (which I hope will be permanent), but even at its former price it is a bargain.

It works

I have been using this for 3 months now without an issue. Runs quietly, and powers a rig. I would recommend this.
