The Yaesu ATAS-120A Motorized Mobile Antenna is a revolutionary solution for amateur radio enthusiasts, offering unparalleled convenience and performance for multi-band mobile operation. Designed to work seamlessly with compatible Yaesu transceivers (such as the FT-991(A), FT-897D, FT-847, FT-857D, FT-100/100D, and FT-891), the ATAS-120A eliminates the need for cumbersome monoband whip assemblies, providing effortless tuning across a wide range of frequencies.
Key Features and Operation
This unique antenna features a motorized tuning system that automatically resonates the radiating element to achieve the lowest SWR, ensuring optimal performance on the go. Covering the 7, 14, 21, 28, 50, 144, and 430 MHz Amateur Bands, the ATAS-120A offers incredible versatility for HF, 6-meter, 2-meter, and 70-centimeter operations. Its intelligent design allows for quick and precise tuning directly from your compatible Yaesu transceiver. For optimal connection on 144 and 440 MHz bands, a duplexer (for FT-897/857/FT-100) or a triplexer (for FT-847) may be required.
Installation Notes
The ATAS-120A is designed for direct mounting onto a standard mobile antenna mount with an SO-239 connector (mount not included). For proper operation of the motorized tuning system, a well-grounded mount is crucial. Avoid magnet mounts, as they may not provide a sufficient ground path, which is essential for the motor to function correctly. Ensure any chosen mount has excellent electrical contact to bare metal, not just paint, for reliable performance.

Great antenna for mobile use with FT891
Review byAB4WS - Jack
This is a great antenna to pair with the Yaesu FT-891 for mobile use. It quickly tunes from 40 meters to 6 meters with the FT891 and works great. I get great signal reports and have worked a number of stations while mobile with this setup. 73 de AB4WS, Jack

Amazing
Review byPatrick D
I bought the ATAS-120a to replace my Shark Hamsticks. So much easier changing bands now. The ATAS-120a works great! I get 1:1-1:1.7 SWR on all bands, 6-40. I highly recommend this antenna! Thank you Gigaparts!

Solid antenna for mobile roving
Review byPhil
Solid antenna. Yeah, its a tad pricey but it will be hard to find a similarly priced screwdriver for yaesu transceivers.
My main desire is to one button tune while operating on the move. I mounted it on a lip mount, and it works, but ultimately moved it to a large triple magnet mount AFTER drilling and tapping ground leads from the mag mount to the chassis of my sedan.
The 5" triple mag mount keeps it on the car while moving just fine. Tunes 7MHz - 54MHz at a 2:1 or less. I pair it with my Yaesu FT-891. Pick up one of them for $630 and together its like $1,100 bucks or so for a very capable POTA setup.
Two concerns i should address. It snowed a fair but and ice got on the main column of the ATAS. It didnt affect it too much but I can see a situation where you should be watchful of accumulation.
Second, I don't trust keeping a $400 antenna on the car 24/7 so I'll pull it down when long parking at places without security. I wish there was a good solution to tethering it.

Works as described
Review byGreat antenna
Have a 857D radio in my bronco but didn't want multiple antennas so ended up getting the ATAS with a duplexor. Have mad contacts on 70, 20, and 10 meters on my first weekend.

ATAS-120 with FT-100
Review byBrianW
This setup is really great! Installed in F250 AlumiDuty - ground bond straps to bed, cab & frame. My first two QSOs were to POTA calls in South Dakota from Central Ohio on 20m with 5x8 and 5x9 signal reports both ways.

Love my Yaesu mobile system
Review byMike KD2ZZA
I recently installed the FT-891 and ATAS 120A in my Ford Explorer. As an experienced ICOM IC-7300, IC-705 operator, I experienced a steep learning curve to use the Yaesu radio and the autotune feature of the ATAS.
The Advanced Owners Manual to the radio is a "must have" to go through the steps (menu) to operate the ATAS. It has been about a week and I love this combo for my first mobile radio. BTW: I am using the Lido console mount with speaker to complete the setup.

Great Mobile HF option
Review byJeremy
I have used the ATAS 120-A for 4 years now without issue. Make sure you have a good mount and the antenna is grounded to the frame and you will not have any issues. I have worked all Continents from Florida with this antenna.

Convenient, quick set-up with some understanding
Review byChip
I like the ATAS 120A for it's convenient set-up at trailer campsites. Recognizing that it's not a 7-band dipole or 33 ft. vertical, it works well. A 63 in. antenna on 40m is a bit of a compromise, so don't expect too much. I can run the coax into my travel trailer and be up and running in 5 min. with the ATAS. It takes me almost an hour to set-up my 35 ft. high inverted V. Recognizing that tuning the ATAS may take up to 2 min between bands, and ignoring what sounds like motor noise (it's the clutch designed to take the stress off the motor), it's a winner!
