I purchased this antenna analyzer Dec. 2024 and it has become my go to SWR/Impedance meter. I check the calibration using a dummy load with a known SWR and Impedance.

After my beloved MFJ Analyzer finally drew it's last breath after over 30 years of service, I knew I could not live without an analyzer. I chose the Comet CAA-500. Even though it has a bigger footprint, I preferred the analog cross hair meters and the full featured LED data screen. The sweep is clear and no nonsense. I am not launching rockets, just building antennas Great tool when out in the field (or should say Parks). And the initial "sticky" screws on the battery cover turn with a little downward pressure, so no issues.

Great antenna analyzer

Brand name antenna analyzer are pricey as much of almost everything in ham radio. This is one great analyzer out of the bunch. In the middle price wise. Easy to use with very lovely Cross Needle gauge that give instantaneous readout of what is happening while doing an antenna tune, in addition to more detailed information on the Color LCD display, with a graphic SWR plot option.
It's a professional unit, very well built, has a good weight to it with the batteries inside. Your hand will get tired if you take too long to fix your antenna and have to hold the unit. Between the Famous MFJ and the Comet, i picked the latter for a little bit more money and truly happy with it. As mentioned in other reviews it uses AA batteries. I use Ni-MH batteries in mine and I charge them within the unit itself. There's a very tiny switch inside the battery compartment, make sure to set it to Ni-MH if you use these batteries.
It has two input ports, one is SO239 for HF & VHF, the second is for UHF and it's an N type connector. This is a logical choice for frequency type, but a bit inconvenient to switch between ports and connections when trying to tune a multi band antenna HF-VHF-UHF.

Easy To Use.

I have had this analyzer for about two years. It works great, I bought the optional case which was pricey, but it does protect the unit. I use rechargeable Eneloop batteries in mine. I have used the analyzer a lot from tuning field HF antennas and tuning VHF antennas on vehicles. I have yet to recharge the batteries as the unit has auto off, something my MFJ analyzer did not. I don't worry about losing the screws, as the batteries can be charged in the unit. The Eneloop batteries work great for this application, I would not keep alkaline batteries in the analyzer, as I do not trust them as I have seen in date and fully charged ones leak. I have been using Eneloops quite some time in Nikon strobes with no problem. Bottom line this analyzer is head and shoulders better than the MFJ I had, which bit the dust.

Versitle but sloppy workmanship

The Comet antenna analyzer has all the features of any good analyzer. It appears solidly built. When I opened my box I noticed that the SWR meter needle was not on mechanical "zero", which would affect the accuracy of the meter reading. I was unable to adjust this needle to rest at the bottom of the scale. Accessing the battery compartment requires removing two very small screws. I think this is dangerous because if the batteries need to be changed in the field it is likely that one or both of the screws could be lost. The meter problem is not too severe because the SWR is displayed on the TFT display, but for this kind of money construction should be much better. Still I don't think you'll find a better analyzer that covers 1.8 to 500 MHz. 3.5 stars.
