Comet Antennas Broadband Ground-Plane Vertical Base Antenna - CHA-250B

Ive had for over a year now. Ive had good luck with it and have contacts from all over. Granted mainly ft8. It handles 100 watts everyday from my radio. Use on 6m some also. For the price and if follow recommended height it works as advertised and expected. Bye the way swr on my antenna when assembled was 1.5 or below on every band but 80m it is 1.8.

This antenna is a low performance antenna and should be purchased only if you do not have the space to install a higher performance antenna, i.e., a dipole. I have been unhappy with it.

Found this antenna to be good choice for my location. Had an EFHW wire antenna before, and I must say that it had less noise. I just did not have the range I wanted for low power QRP operations. The lower angle of radiation give the longer distance. Still use the long wire a lot, but the vertical has its place. I'm very satisfied with this antenna....

The vertical cannot handle 100 watts. The toroid core coils heat up and the SWR rises to intolerable levels. The antenna is a fairly decent dummy load. A G5RV or dipoles would be infinitely better. Yes, it does load on 80-6m. And it does radiate poorly.

Don't believe the glowing 5 star reviews. Spend your money on a wire antenna or build your own.

I realized this antenna would be a compromise…. but it is a waste of money. It is well built, has the SWR that is advertised but is completely deaf. You can’t call station you can not hear and the receive ability of this antenna is poor at best. I have it atop 20-foot mast and my wire G5RV Jr. at 20 feet out performs this antenna by a long shot. I am so disappointed, I wanted this to work but after 4 days and the Field Day events, I realized it is not anything worth using as a backup or portable so it comes down.

I wanted to minimize what people in my HOA would see of my antenna's. I have a tree-line separates my yard from the farm field next door. This allowed me to open a hole in the trees, and keep the antenna in the middle of them. The trees around it make it nearly invisible and you have to know what you are looking for to see it. The performance of the antenna is excellent and used it the first weekend for several QSO parties and was able to break in many of the pile-ups as well. The SWR I had seen in other reviews matched what I have in my installations. In the lower frequencies my SWR was 2.0:1 and below 1.5:1 in the upper frequencies. Assembly was a breeze, install in the air was very easy, and on the air time was very abbreviated. Works well with my ICOM 746PRO and my Yeasu FT-950. Thanks Comet and GigaParts!

Better than advertised in my opinion. SWR was equal or better on every band the antenna is rated for. We used 100 watts from ICOM 7300 and made DX in Southern California 1600 miles away here in North Louisiana. Also hit Northern portion of North Carolina and Miami, Florida all within 2 hrs the first day of use. Antenna is very easy to set up with 2 people and wouldn’t be hard for 1 person. Completely pleased. Thank you Comet and GigaParts for great antenna and great service. 5 star for sure!

I use this for my field day and weekends out! Easy to assemble and take down one-man operation, Very well tuned Antenna.
