Messi and Paoloni HyperFlex 5 Coax Cable: Extreme Flexibility for Amateur
Radio
The Messi and Paoloni HyperFlex 5 Coax Cable is a standout 5.4mm (.212")
coaxial cable, specifically engineered for amateur radio operators who demand
extreme flexibility and top-tier performance. It's the most flexible cable in
the M&P coax range, making it the perfect choice for applications requiring
tight bends, such as rotor antennas, portable operations, and jumpers.
Achieving best-in-class performance for a 5.4mm coax, the HyperFlex 5 boasts
an impressive 87% velocity ratio, the highest in the M&P coax range. This
ensures minimal signal loss and excellent efficiency across a wide range of
frequencies, from HF through microwave. Its exceptional characteristics also
make it ideal for CB radio, modem/router (4G/LTE/2G/5G) connections, patch
cords, amplifiers, and Wi-Fi signal extension, offering versatile utility for
the modern radio enthusiast.
The HyperFlex 5 features a UV-resistant black PVC jacket (overall Ø 5.4mm ±
0.15), providing durability for outdoor use. It's important to note that PVC
sheaths are more flexible, but NOT suitable for direct burial.
Internally, this cable is built for superior electrical performance. The inner
conductor consists of 19x0.29mm pure copper wires, totaling an overall
diameter of 1.4mm (0.055 inches). The dielectric is a triple-layer,
high-pressure physical injection foamed polyethylene (overall Ø 3.7mm ± 0.05),
which contributes to its low capacitance of 74 pF/m.
For exceptional noise reduction, the HyperFlex 5 incorporates a robust
dual-shielding system. The first screen is a 100% screening copper foil with
an applied PE-layer, preventing cracking from short radius bends. This is
complemented by a reactive braid with 88% screening from 120 copper wires,
manufactured with advanced 24-spool machines (instead of 16). This results in
50% more crossovers, granting exceptional Screening Attenuation (SA) and
allowing the braid to react to twisting and bending like a spring. The
combined shielding achieves a Screening Efficiency (SA) of >105 dB from
100-2000 MHz, earning it a Screening Class A++.
With an impedance of 50 Ohm ± 3 at 200Mhz and a maximum peak power of 2,900
Watts, the HyperFlex 5 can handle significant power output. It offers a tight
minimum bending radius of 50mm (1.97 in) for up to 15 bends and 25mm (0.98 in)
for a single choke bend, providing unparalleled flexibility for installation
in confined spaces. The cable operates reliably across a wide temperature
range from -45°C to +70°C (-49°F to +158°F).
