I already had a Yaesu FT-710, so operating the FTX-1F feels familiar, but the buttons and knobs are not exactly the same. I've added the microSD card and performed the recent upgrades without issue. Battery life is good. I've ordered an amp keying cable from radiodan that works well with my KPA500. Quite a bit heavier than anything I might have carried during the back packing days as a Scoutmaster. (NorCal 40A) These days camping is from my RV with POTA/SOTA from my trail bike. Rig functions as it should w/o any failures. Chinese QRP rig I bought at Christmas failed within a week (sigh). BTW - I currently have the FT-818 & FT-857 and previously had the FT-897. All have been good radios. However, it's fun being the "first kid on the block" to have the FTX-1F!

Dedicated to QRP CW, and vhf/uhf/c4fm. I did not need the Optima version as I have an FTDX-10 for higher power. Very pretty looking and enjoyable to play with. I have checked into nets on 75 meters with 10 watts over 300 miles away although that would be more antenna. All in all a terrific little rig. I am glad to add it to my collection. I am well pleased with my purchase.

Yaesu's Version of the Icom 705
Review by KQ4GUI
I Like the look and it's like the 705 but looks a tiny bit smaller. This does all mode/all bands. 6w power is good for QRP Sota/Pota days. I wonder what the price will be I might get this in the future as a great QRP rig.
