Solid mast for wire antennas

I bought this to compliment my POTA 20, The 33 is a little big to pack on a hike but the added height and stiffness is great for operating POTA when I'm not hiking very far. I'm currently using it to build and test a variety of wire antennas and the 33' height is perfect. It's nice to know I can buy replacement parts should I damage any piece of the mast.

For a $150 mast, these are very fragile. Take great care. I am very careful with my equipment and all that happened was the top few elements sliding down on me while putting this thing up out in the cold and when they came down, they fractured elements #12 and #13. In dozens of activations using the el cheapo 20ft carbon fiber fishing poles, I never broke a single one. But these things splintered like crazy. A bit disappointed in the quality and texture of the elements. they catch easily on each other, unlike with other carbon masts and especially fiberglass ones. If you get one of these, just be careful with it...

Live in downs stairs apt, Park my truck outside my patio and use tire base stand, Applied custom strips of heat sink to protect the mast container, set up this mast for inverted V and Bam!!! I'm on the air (Listening LOL)

The combo is a great deal. The tripod is super heavy duty and the mast is great to backpack, but the tripod is, well, heavy duty, so plan your carry load well.

I was surprised with how sturdy this mast is. It does flex some, but I am in a windy environment, and I was expecting it to move a lot more than it does. Simple to deploy. Packs nicely into a small package for portability.

Explorer POTA33 mast

I have found the build on this mast to be very solid. Especially at the top end. That being said, it's still very flexible at the top three elements as they're the thinnest and will bend the most under any load, even a 22 awg EFHW. The bend is about equal in height to the top three element lengths. So what I've started doing is start deploying the mast at the 4th element and I get about the same height, but the mast is much stiffer and the antenna has less flex in it when deployed. Same height, less swaying. I'm happy with it. Nice product!
