Intellitron AS-3002GL 2-Position HF/VHF/UHF Lightning Protected Antenna Switch
Intellitron: "Expertly Built, Economically Priced"
The Intellitron AS-3002GL is a robust 2-position antenna switch meticulously designed not only to route RF energy but also to provide multiple levels of protection for your valuable station equipment. True to Intellitron's motto, "Expertly Built, Economically Priced," this switch offers advanced safeguarding features without compromising on value, making it an essential addition to any amateur radio setup.
This versatile switch operates across a broad HF/VHF/UHF frequency range, featuring two active positions, "A" and "B". When one port is selected, the unselected port is automatically grounded, adding a layer of protection. For enhanced safety, a center-off position is also available, which grounds both "A" and "B" ports while disconnecting the input (radio) entirely.
Built for serious power, the AS-3002GL boasts a robust 2.5 kW PEP (Peak Envelope Power) and 1 kW CW (Continuous Wave) power handling capability. Its excellent performance is further highlighted by an insertion loss of less than 0.2 dB across its entire frequency range and port isolation greater than 60 dB at 300 MHz and greater than 40 dB at 450 MHz. Standard Teflon SO-239 coax connectors ensure reliable connections with your existing equipment.
A critical feature of the AS-3002GL is its integrated lightning protection, provided by a replaceable gas surge-protection tube (ARC PILL). This component offers defense against nearby lightning strikes that could otherwise damage connected equipment (though no device can protect from a direct hit). In the event of decreased receiver sensitivity or an unexplained increase in transmit SWR after severe weather, the ARC PILL should be checked for damage. It can be accessed by unscrewing a brass plug and checked with an ohmmeter for a short or measurable resistance, or for physical signs of damage like cracking or discoloration. Replacement tubes (e.g., Littelfuse P/N: CG21000 or equivalent) are readily available and non-polarized for easy installation.
Proper grounding is paramount for effective protection. Connect the switch block to your station ground via the shortest practical route, ideally using solid copper wire, as copper braid is less effective for static discharge. A dedicated grounding tab is provided for this connection.
Invest in the Intellitron AS-3002GL for an expertly built, economically priced antenna switch that offers reliable RF routing and essential lightning protection for your amateur radio station.
