No complaints. Easy to use and program, and its LOUD. 2nd gen Ram 12 valve, approaching 500k miles... anyone whos ever been one knows they are not quiet comfy vehicles lol. It's my daily, and I wanted to test this radio in it first. Absolutely no complaints.
It is now permanent instead in my much newer "luxury" for me 2020 Ram 1500. I've had no issues with this radio and if I could afford it, I'd have one in every vehicle I own and one i. The shack.

I how a lot of radios - too many (says no one!) I got a new truck and wanted a really capable radio to match the truck and the challenges that I face in communicating in rural Wyoming. This new FTM-510DR ASP checked off just about every box that I could want (It would be awesome if Yaesu came up with a modern equivalent of their old 857D!). It was easy to install. Having a second (maybe the primary) speaker on the head unit of the radio was absolutely genius! You can bury the main body of the radio wherever you want, mount the head unit on your dash - or wherever is convenient for you, and still get great audio without the need for an extra speaker. I have watched this class of radio over the years and the screen just get clearer and crisper with each generation. The options become more abundant. The ease of use gets... I guess easier. The entire radio is not a giant package at all, and if you separate the head from the body, it is quite compact. APRS is a great feature, and Fusion is a fun mode. I volunteer as a firefighter in my community, and being able to monitor fire, EMS, and some law enforcement as I role to a callout has been really efficient and wonderful. I have Motorola HTs from my served agencies, but nothing beats a great, well mounted mobile antenna and a quality radio that can pick out signal from the noise. There are cheaper options, but I have to tell you - if radio is important to you, then get this rig. They say "buy once, cry once". Truth be known, I saved up my money, bought once and never cried!

I did the buy once, cry once for this radio and really, I haven't cried. This is a wonderful radio and the ASP is superb. I love the additional functionality and paired it with a Comet CA-2X4SRNMO antenna for excellent performance in my truck. I would definitely recommend to anyone!!!

I did not believe it was possible to improve the FTM - 500 but the FTM-510D ASP is a great improvement.

Great radio, lots of features

This radio is great. I bought it to have a good mobile in the car which also had digital, but also got GPS, APRS, insane levels of signal DSP. There is definitely a learning curve to it all, but I got connected to Wires-X on a repeater in no time. Surprisingly I've been more amazed by APRS since I never knew all that it does. Anyway, great radio. It is a little expensive, but you do get a lot for the money. SSB would have been a nice feature though.

This radio is packed with features. When I get a device, I like to spend time researching it. The 510 has not disappointed in function and there are too many things to name here in a review. Here are somethings that I have really enjoyed:
1 - PDN Mode - After registering the unit with Yaesu I can get on Wires X directly and not need a local repeater to do so. I really enjoyed this. You'll need the SCU-58 cable for this.
2- The ASP feature really does cut down noise when listening
3 - The dual speakers are very nice and make for good audio.
4 - APRS has been fun to play with
5 - PMG is a great feature
The only reason I take a star off is because Yaesu is refusing to listen to customers and put Memory Banks back into their radios. They apparently have a philosophy and motive behind their stubbornness not do so but I don't know what that could be. If the 510 had Memory Banks it would be over the top for me.

This Radio is VERY NICE ! just a few things that are questionable PRICE IS THE First one? I would not mind the price at all if the radio had Side Band Function. A bigger screen and loose the big knob. Other than that this is a BEAUTIFUL RADIO. Performance is impeccable, sound quality is off the chart! Having the Mic cord plug in the head unit is stellar just a few years too late. on a scale of 1 to 10 I give this radio an 11 ! it is a great radio !
