This is literally a Shack In The Box...All bands 160M-70cm. 50w on UHF/VHF. C4FM. Great signal reports. This should come with programming software of it's own though.

I bought this radio as a upgrade 897-D I could not ask for better reception then this radio is doing and with the MD 100 desk microphone the audio output is phenomenal. Yes this radio is a little expensive but for those who want the best, I highly recommend this the Yaesu 991A.
I would like to add the staff at gigaparts are wonderful to work with.

Yaesu FT-991(a) very nice little radio

I bought the 991(a) to compliment my FTDX-3000 and to use on VHF/UHF/WIRES-X. Great little radio and the menu system is very easy to navigate. Love the touchscreen display. I think the scope on the 991(a) is more colorful and smoother than my 3000. It's a great little rig. No "real" complaints other than price and I'd like to be able to name additional categories and store more WIRES-X rooms. Overall though I'm very happy with the radio and would recommend it to anyone seeking an all-in-one radio that plays well with the digital modes.

Super nice,, shack in a single box

i have had my radio a few weeks,, and all seems pretty good, i get good audio and signal reports,, i coupled mine with the MFJ-299 desk mic,, works fine and is awesome on SSB. so i guess i will break this down into my pro's and con's
pro, is super easy to use for the vfo and band and mode selections. power and audio reports are awesome. easy to see display, it is just a great first timer hf radio that covers almost every band they will use.. except 220
cons- the memory channels are a bit silly to use and save.. the antenna tuner works great just a bit slow, big issue the internal speaker is awful quality!!! basic software for programming the radio should be included.. not a third party add-on even baofeng has basic software included.
things i would like to see, some nice rig control cat control exclusively for the 991A, that has all thefeatures of the radio and easy memory controls for 1 click frequency changes.
but in the end it is still a great radio,, a complete shack in one package and should be able to keep any user happy for a long time,, i love mine already,, it is for sure a keeper for vhf and uhf ssb for me :D

Sweet rig in-a-box

The Yaesu FT-991A is my second ever HF radio and I have to say it’s been a great radio for the last three months I have owned it.
I get good signal reports and the receive DSP and filtering work well. The touch screen display is very pretty and the waterfall view is a great feature for chasing signals (works in UHF/VHF bands as well). I use the built in USB CAT/soundcard control with JT8, hamradio deluxe and other digital modes with no issues. It just works.
The C4FM works great. I don’t like you can’t send pictures or text like on my FTM-400XD, but not a deal breaker as I mostly use this rig for HF anyways.
Radio is loaded with some great features and I recommend it for any Yaesu fan looking for a midsized HF station.
