Great value in POTA / Portable Rig + Easy to use!
Review by
NT4AT
After deciding that sometimes I wanted more power for my portable operations, I investigated external amplifiers for my QRP rig. The most compatible and easiest to interface were the most expensive - and I'd be carrying 2 boxes and cables (to leave at home). So, with the rebates on the IC-7300, I thought I'd give it a try. I literally received the rig a couple of days before the Virginia QSO party. I live in a high rise condo on a lower floor - so no outdoor antennas - thus I couldn't operate the IC-7300 before the contest. I did use a dummy load to set the audio gain and ALC. But, the first ops were in the field. I was impressed with the ease of use - I was making QSOs on 20 meters within a couple of minutes of connecting the 40-10M EFHW antenna. The display is truly amazing - and easy to adjust for bright conditions. A 20 AH LiFePO4 batter was up to the task of running full power SSB for the day. I realize that I've just scratched the surface of the capabilities of this rig. For hams new to HF, or needing an easy to use rig - at a great price - this is a winner!

Waste of Money
Review by

This transceiver is very disappointing. I usually operate QRP when I am out touring on my motorcycle, and chose the 7300 as the start of a shack for my house, and it turns out I wasted my money. After setting up my home station I ran comparisons with my mobile rig (a cheap X6100). When using the same antenna, my X6100 has a lower noise floor, and can receive signals the 7300 doesn't even know are there. The scope on my cheap chineese transceiver is not only more sensitive, it is also much easier to read. The only good thing I have to say about the 7300 is that the internal speaker seems to be decent.

great radio
Review by

my first HF radio, I'm very happy with how easy and intuitive this radio functions. Lots of great features and i love the waterfall display, it makes it very easy to see where the action is without having to spin the dial thru all the bands. The touch screen feature is also very nice. I've made contacts in the Midwest already and am looking forward to my first DX

Fantastic Radio
Review by

I just upgraded from my IC-718 to this IC-7300. What a difference. The touch screen with waterfall is an exciting new addition. Changing bands is a snap and the automatic tuner is a bonus. Overall, it is easy to use and the menu is intuitive. I especially like the three filter positions, adjustable width, and sharp or soft skirt options for filtering. If you get one you will not be disappointed.

Easy to use HF radio.
Review by

Easy radio to use and program, This makes the 4th Icom in my radio room.
I have used it on a folded dipole, and a multi band dipole. noise reduction covers a wide range of QRN.

Verdict is still out
Review by

I'm switching over to this rig from my IC756 Pro II that I'm tired of working on. The rig is nice, but it's going to take awhile for me to get used to the menu system. I'm used to there being a button to push for anything that is used often, so the learning curve for this 61 year old is stepper than the IC-7610 may have been. These days, I don't see paying for the 7610 when I don't need all of the features anymore. I may give it five stars after using it a month or so.

Great Rig - Love That Spectrum Scope!
Review by
David
My IC-7100 died, So, I replaced it w/ this unit. I never had a unit with a spectrum scope b4. Didn't think I wud use it, but I love it because I can see who is doing CW and where they are in the band. Then, I switch frequencies by touch. Functionally, this is a 7100 with a color screen and a scope, so the transition for me was easy!
